Title: What to do on a clock malfunction during a game?
Post by: Official_21 on November 12, 2020, 12:57:53 PM
What is the proper procedure to follow if there is a play clock malfunction during the game (as happened to me last week http://www.refstripes.com/forum/index.php?topic=15352.msg156257#msg156257).

If the PCO notices the malfunction, should we go to the home team coaches in the pressbox and ask them to relay it to the R or should we wait for R to take action?

I was going to do the latter, but by the time I thought about doing it, the R for the game had dealt with it.

Crew should react pretty quick but this is something discussed in pre-game with clock operators.

I would always ask which team coaches are closer to CO so we would know how to relay messages through.

The B should pick this up very quickly, and interrupt the game as needed to address the problem. If he doesn't, there are a lot of other eyes out there that will bring it to the crew's attention, pretty dang fast. You shouldn't have to worry about initiating anything.

Need to add this to my pre-game with the R.

The confusion for me comes when the pressbox is on the visitors side of the field. Wouldn't that be the home side, since the pressbox always faces the visiting side? Been to two stadiums this season where this was the case.

I did notice that during my game a week ago. The crew got the situation handled and the R relayed to the home team coaches in the pressbox to ask for the PC to be turned off.
