Title: Disconcerting on offense
Post by: jra104 on October 19, 2023, 09:19:30 AM
Had a Sub Varsity coach ask me about a penalty they received in a game.  The coach "called" the kid over and told him repeatedly to get off the field.  As he passed the numbers they snapped the ball and threw him a fade ball.  Play was called back and penalized 15yds for as the coach was told Disconcerting.  Thoughts on this?

Sounds like a textbook breach of 9-2-2-b correctly flagged and penalised.

Agreed - that is 100% a 9-2-2-b foul, and the UNS should go to the coach, not the player. That said, it's not a disconcerting signal foul (7-1-a-5). Important thing is, they got it right.

"Disconcerting" (confusing) to make the defense think there was a substitution taking place.  As others have said, this is a UNS so correctly penalized 15 yards.  My guess is they meant to say Deception.

Every coach who runs this hideout play thinks they have dreamed up the best play ever.
