I hope someone claims those or chapter secretaries of those schools placing a courtesy call to see who has them.
-
I know for sure Houston does not, nor does our chapter. Probably half my information comes from chapter members, not assigners or secretaries.

Wow, must be a UIL assignment but Tyler chapter travels to Laredo!
-
Does anyone have insight into how UIL assigns chapters, when requested? Like Tyler going to Laredo. Just curious if there's an established process or a random spinning wheel to pick a chapter.
I'd rather see UIL picks go to chapters who don't have as many playoff games, to spread the love around, but that's just me.

I have no insight to anything. My thoughts on the issue is I hope Taso has something similar to this and when coaches can't agree on a crew or chapter they pick from the smaller chapters who don't get as many playoff games as others. I am in North Texas we are geographically challenged. If I don't have a game and someone will pay the travel I am more than ready to go show out for my crew and my chapter that we are worth selecting this time of year. I get annoyed seeing some chapters get so many games just because of where they are located.
Safe travels and good games all who are fortunate to have 1!

No insight but sometimes UIL does it as an “in you face” to the schools.
Many years ago two very small Texas panhandle schools faced each other in the basketball playoffs which was set in the NE panhandle area. Both schools has used Amarillo basketball chapter all year but disagreed on who to use and went to UIL.
UIL assigned the game to Brownsville chapter. Schools had to pay game fee, airfare, car rental, hotel and meals

In some cases the two schools have agreed on a chapter but they don't trust each other to contact the chapter so they get the UIL to be the one to contact the chapter.

For all its gloriousness and awesomeness, Texas high school football is literally a 3rd world country when it comes to how officials are selected for contests. I don't think there's a single level of football, or any sport, at any level, that lets coaches pick who officiates their games (and for good reason.) It's the most embarrassing part of Texas football, hands down.
