Title: Notre Dame Substitution
Post by: BoomerSooner on January 03, 2025, 09:14:42 PM
I’m wondering if I’m missing something, but based on NCAA Rule 2-27-9 and 3-5-2d, was Notre Dame’s substitution illegal? I’m basing this on the portion of the rule that requires a substituted player to sit out for a play and once a substitute becomes a player he must play for one play. Multiple players on offense during 3rd down were substituted for and then returned for the eventual 4th down play. Kirby Smart was wrong that you can’t sub 11 for 11, but I do believe he was right that this was an illegal substitution. What am I missing?

The rule talks of not applying on a timeout. They were coming out of a timeout so it wouldn’t really apply.

But watch the receiver at the bottom of the screen…

I didn’t see that a timeout had been called and going back to the play-by-play it doesn’t indicate a charged timeout to either team. Was their an official’s timeout for replay or injury?

There was an officials timeout for replay before it.

I do remember that now. They originally awarded ND a first down and replay called it a yard short. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Same crew gets the orange bowl.

:o How can same crew work Big 12 Championship game then work Notre Dame 2  weeks in a row. It is hard to fathom that this conference does not have other qualified crews. I have been out many years but never seen this before.

The conference doesn’t choose who advances, Shaw does. The only other option was an SEC crew that Penn State would have seen in its first two games.

I am not talking about the crew since they did a good job but Big 12 has other qualified crews so why use the same crew 3 weeks in a row.

Okay so if Shaw picked Alvarez’s crew who worked the ND-IU game in the first round it would have been better? They should be chosen just because it’s been longer since they saw Notre Dame?
