This is potentially good news for officials - UIL is going to have a proposal for home field advantage (4A and below) for playoffs at the next UIL Legislative Council meeting. Ideally, the proposal would require officials to be from the chapter that services the home team, same as in the regular season. This proposal, if written/implemented that way, would significantly make it so that every chapter gets several games/year. Here’s hoping that TASO advocates for this to help provide more playoff opportunities for officials, especially in chapters that are often overlooked.

Unfortunately I am doubtful any UIL change will ever require the use of officials from a specific area. May still help though for some chapters depending on how the coin flip goes.

If passed, I'm assuming it would be for the 1st round playoffs only. Similar to the current structure for 5A/6A. For 1st & 2nd round playoff games I've been in favor of this for years. That being, officials of the game should come from the chapter that covers that location all season. This would be part of the two teams decision process when agreeing on location to play.
But any part associated with officials, I will believe it when I see it. It seems that UIL/TASO do not get involved with coaches picking officials, until it needs to benefit them. But I will find it comical if/when UIL dictates what officials are to be used for 1st round games but will not interject a state semi-final or championship game.

Unless you have some information not readily available on the web, I think you mixed up what the proposal might be with what you'd like it to be. All we know at this point is the Standing Committee on Athletics passed a proposal in concept and instructed UIL staff to draft appropriate language changes regarding home field advantage for football (4A and below), volleyball, basketball and soccer. No where does the proposal mention any conditions using the home chapter that I could find in documents.
What you might also be more concerned about was a written proposal submitted by the public that got no action by the Athletic Committee was "to allow districts to utilize non-chapter officials for regular season varsity contests."
