Title: Coaches....it never ends
Post by: HLinNC on July 01, 2012, 08:47:00 AM
I worked a passing league tourney yesterday on a turf field.  Needless to say it was hot >:D

It was sponsored by the US Army so they had soldiers to assist with timekeeping and the four second count for the QB.  These guys are wearing desert boots, black Army tees and BDU pants on turf that probably hit 115 at some point.

The soldier didn't have a whistle so he would raise his arm at the 4 second mark.  We were watching the action on the field but there were enough coaches and players watching for the count so it didn't really matter.

In the final, a dispute erupted after he may or may not have raised his arm.  I think he had brain freeze and couldn't remember.  The QB had probably held on too long.  The two staffs began to argue back and forth with the soldier between them and one asst. began yelling at the soldier.   I just stood back, watching in wonder, thinking "if the US Army begins to whip this coaches  deadhorse:, I will not lift a finger to stop it."  Things eventually calmed down but I thought in the testosterone driven, emotion filled world these coaches live in, there is a higher plane that the bulk of them can not begin fathom.
