What are some of the apps you guys are using to study for NFHS and NCAA rules?
-
I'm a web developer and programmer. I've considered approaching the NFHS about making a rule book iPhone app.

I doubt you will get far with that project. Last year they Fed announced they were going to have them and then the NFHS removed their pdf online rule books due to widespread copyright violations. The Arbiter is now the source for online Federation materials, however they have yet to update to 2012 books.
That was the primary reason I was an NFHS member was to have access to the digital format. If they aren't going to insure that The Arbiter keeps it up to date, I'm probably not renewing my membership as the only other tangible beneift remaining is the liability coverage and I can get that elsewhere.
I do use the iPad Replay Booth app to load video and make cuts. The developer is an official as well as an engineer, I think. There are some occasional bugs and the instructions are written like I should already know how it works but it is useful. Other than that. I've not seen much out there. We're really too much of a niche market.

Too late I'm afraid. They already released them for a few sports. I have the baseball one and it is pretty good. I don't know when they'll be releasing a football one but it can't be far off I don't think.
Other than that, I have the NCAA PDF on my phone and that's about it.

I cut up & scanned my rules & case books in a searchable PDF format for use on my office computer & laptop. Didn't take long & works as well as the digitized version from last year. Plus, I don't have to fool with those bothersome ads & other non-rules pages.
What's an eye pad? ???

Maarten de Boer, an EFAF official from Holland, developed a web based application called Rule Tool which can be found at http://www.ruletool.info/index.php. I thought I had read about it on Refstripes so I didn't weigh in on this topic earlier. Apparently, I got it from another source. I think it's very well done, but I wonder if the NCAA will see it as a copyright violation.

Not sure the NCAA is as strict as the Fed. They've had open PDF rule book for several years now.

As it should be in the 21st century. If NFHS has its panties in a knot because some scofflaw has posted its precious rules on the web and that hurts their bottom line, then they need a new revenue model.
Probably need that anyway. ;)

That they do.
