Title: Yellow Linesman clip
Post by: bossman72 on July 29, 2012, 02:34:08 PM
My friend had a yellow linesman chain clip last year.  I thought that was a great idea for the 2 clip system so you can differentiate between the two.  However, I can't find one for the life of me!

Does anyone know where I can buy a yellow ribbon linesman clip?

I have been a  linesman for over 16 years, having been on the inside  before that.  I am not a big fan of the ribbon clip, due in-part of our crew working a lot of natural field and when they get wet and muddy, they just do not work.  A long  while ago I was working building a machine shop and one of there workers after they found out i was a linesman, made me a metal clip with the yd lines drilled in and marked from the 5 to the 50 yd line,  Nothing can hurt it.  Some one gave me a orange ribbon clip, but only carry that as a spare.  I think that one came from our local Purchase Supply outlet  Hope this helps.

I just go to the hardware store and buy metal clips and yellow poly rope and make them myself.  I never bothered with yardlines as most of the clip guys weren't gonna fool with it anyway.

Loop the rope thru, melt the ends, wrap upper and lower ends w/electrical tape.  Heat the tape just a bit.  Inexpensive alternative.

I actually preferred the cloth ones when I was working HL regularly, as I felt like they were a lot less likely to break than the plastic ones.  I got an orange one from Honig's, I believe, and a black one from the local guy who sells equipment.  YMMV.

Does the local guy have a website?  Black could work too.  I'm just looking for a ribbon clip that's a color other than orange.  (Note: I don't like the Gerry Davis black one since it doesn't have all the numbers, but I may resort to buying it if I can't find anything else)

Bossman, that's the one I have.  I don't worry about the clip numbers until I have to bring out the chains, and I move that myself before we come off the sideline.

All you have to do is follow the white line.  ;D

Yeah, I know.  The less chance I give myself to screw something up, though, the better.   :)

Since we're talking about the ribbon clip (which I prefer), has anybody found a use for that D-ring that's on the end of many of them?
