Title: End of the session thoughts?
Post by: Cowman52 on November 04, 2012, 01:05:47 PM
Been a good year so far, just evaluating things. I do this because I enjoy the kids, the game, and yes, even the coaches to an extent. Joined this board for the info it adds and to learn.
That being said, why is it some of us insist on eating our own?  If like most of us, we don't get The big games, go to game site on Friday with an umpire in his 60 who takes the no whistle bit literally, doesn't carry a flag, a back judge who is a 2nd year wonder, knows it all, and can't watch the 25 second clock for watching the cheerleaders, H L good official who has to watch everything and does a pretty good job and L J doesn't have a penalty or a call all night.  Then when something does go haywire, all the second guessing, and my favorite" if I had been there" starts.
Guys, you were not there, we went to a gunfight with a spit ball, and have to "fix"a royal screw up with a pair of pliers and some baling wire.
So next time you insist that you never have a miscue, just remember most of us don't have a crew with 50 years experience

Not sure what posts you've been reading, but by and large all I read is constructive criticism and helpful advice. Can you list a specific post I must have missed?

Best regards,

Brad

My season ain't over yet.  Will have to give my thoughts in December aWaRd

So are you the R or the aforementioned HL?  If you are the linesman, then I would say "but of course" >:D

I don't think anyone is saying they don't have a miscue.  Most of us are pretty confident in our knowledge and skills or we wouldn't be doing this gig.  I realize some are here to learn and I think by and large we help steer them in the right direction.  I know I have picked up quite a few ideas over the last few years.

Some states and associations have differing mechanics, philosophies, and interpretations that lead to most of the debate on here.  Sometimes the debate may get a little hot but we're an opinionated lot by nature.

What does shock me though is the few posts that are not based in any rule set I've ever read nor are they backed by case plays or Reddings.  When you go back and read some of their prior posting history, you find they were maybe just made a white hat after having officiating two or three years.  It makes me wonder about the lack of officials nationwide and what kind of leadership they are getting.

We all have crew mates we'd rather not work with in our areas and I think we know that.  However, on any given Friday, Thursday, or Saturday, we swallow that pill for a few hours so we can get the game in and enjoy it.

Need some help understanding context.  I didn't spend much time on a farm, so I don't really understand the bailing wire comment.  Closest I've been to a "gunfight" was on the paintball field (and I was mighty scared).

I have miscues every game; I think regretting them (for a short time) and figuring out how to improve is part of learning.

Baling wire is what you use to bale hay into the nice little blocks or rolls.

So let me get this straight...I'm supposed to go into a gunfight with baling wire?  How does that work?
