Title: Comeback - I just had to share this...
Post by: RMR on December 02, 2012, 10:49:16 PM
Friday night i have the #3 seed playing at the #2 seed in Louisiana's highest classification.  The school seeded 3 has beaten the school seeded at 2 something like six or seven straight times in the playoffs.

Anyhow, with a little over 3 minutes to go in the game, #3 has the ball on #2's side of the field and is leading 48-28.

A fumble and two successful onside kicks later and #2 wins the game 49-48.

21 points in the final 2:11 of the game.

i've never seen anything quite like that before.

Sounds like a of excitement, & I'm sure it was fun for the crew.

(Hopefully neither coach got arrested before the game!)

Reminds me of a recent playoff game I was R in.

#3 was leading over #2 28-14 with 1:41 to go in the game, and #2 had no timeouts left.  1st and 10 for #3 around mid-field, clock to restart on the ready.  #3 captain advises me that they're going to kneel it out.

#3 snaps the ball with about 1:20 on the clock and downs it, 2nd and 12.  #3 snaps again, and makes an absolute mess of the snap, and #2 recover the loose ball with 0:37 on the clock.  Next play, #2 put a long pass into the end zone, and it's now a 28-21 game.

Onside kick, recovered by #2 (clear recovery, no doubt and no contest).  1st and 10 for #2, from mid-field, 0:35 on the clock.  A few good plays (and their last timeout) get them 1st and 10 on the B's 20, clock stopped for the timeout at 0:04.  Pass into the endzone, but #3s pass rusher takes 3 steps after the QB releases and nails the QB.  I have my flag on the ground for RTP, and glance up to see BJ and FJ signalling incomplete pass, and the clock showing 0:00.

One untimed play from B's 10.  Again, pass goes into the end zone, comes off hands, and hits the ground.

So, wasn't an upset in the end, but in 25 years, I've never seen a team that was going to kneel it out for the win suddenly find themselves under that much pressure in the end.
