Stats question
« on: September 26, 2013, 01:06:55 PM »
What is the official scoring for a blocked punt? If the ball crosses the LOS(as we know in the rulebook) this is considered a punt and team A cannot touch or advance till B touches it. Is this the same for statisticians or is any deflection of a scrimmage kick considered a block?

It's called a punt (scrimmage kick) even if it don't cross the LOS.  I have no idea how the stats treat it.

I think I saw somewhere it is figured into the punting yardage as a negative.
