Redding-Shaw Quiz Week 11
My answers:
1. A, 1/10, B-47, RFP (40 and running). Legal formation. Regardless of the total number of players, this is a legal scrimmage kick formation. The restriction in a SKF applies to the EXCEPTIONS to mandatory numbering. EXCEPTIONS to mandatory numbering must be on the line and between the ends at the snap. All of the EXCEPTIONS (only A45 in this example) are on the line and between the ends at the snap. So, this is all legal (assuming, of course, Team B was given time to 'match up' with substitutes, if desired). Play clock starts when spotted and officials are in position, while the 40-second play clock should have been started when the ball became dead.
2. A, 2/7, A-18, Snap (25). Illegal forward pass. Once the ball is in player possession (either team) beyond the NZ, a legal forward pass is no longer possible by rule during the remainder of the down. Since the pass is illegal, pass interference rules no longer apply, so no foul by B31. The penalty for the IFP is 5 yards and LOD at the spot of the pass. The game
and play clock
s will start on the snap due to the apparent TD. The play clock is 25, due to the completion of the penalty, a starts on the R's signal.
3. A, 4/6, A-45, snap (25). Fouls by both teams during the down: KCI by A, and DH by B. Team A's foul is before they last gain possession, so they can NOT invoke the "clean hands" provision. The fouls offset, and the down is repeated. The game
and play clock
s will start on the snap due to the legal kick down. Play clock is 25 due to the completion of the penalties, and will start on the R's signal.
4. A, 3/2, B-20, RFP (40). Extending the T/O for media does not change the game/play clock status. The game clock will start on the R's signal. By rule, when a defensive player is injured, even if an offensive player is also injured, the play clock is set to 40, and started on the R's signal.
5. B, 1/10, B-22, snap (40 and running). Even though B17 is airborne, this is a ball legally touched by Team B in the field of play, so the game clock should start and the ball belongs to B at the point where it crossed the sideline. There is no foul for Illegal Kick Out of Bounds. The game clock will start on the snap due to the award of a first down to Team B. The play clock is set to 40 and started when the ball became dead.
6. A, 1/G, B-1. Personal fouls during down with a legal pass play may be enforced at the end of the last Team A run, if there is no change of team possession DURING the down. The apparent touchback does not count as a change of possession DURING the down (something Redding changed shortly after he became Sec-Ed many years ago). The game clock will start on the snap, due to the apparent touchback, and the play clock is set to 25 due to the completion of the penalty, and starts on the R's signal.
7. A, 2/10, A-20, RFP (25). For the entire team failing to stop for one full second prior to the apparent snap, this is an illegal shift that converts to a false start. There is no play (and the R should include that in his announcement). 5 yard penalty. The game clock will start on the R's signal, and the play clock is set to 25 due to the completion of the penalty, and started on the R's signal.
8. A, 1/10, B-30, snap (25). With conclusive video evidence, Replay can "fix" the inadvertent whistle by awarding the ball to Team A at the spot of recovery. Since the ball was touched by Team B before the recovery, Team A is awarded a first down at the spot of recovery. The game clock will start on the snap due to the legal kick down, and the play clock is set to 25 for the completion of the penalty, and started on the R's signal.
How'd I do?
