Along those lines, a possible solution would be somewhat in line with the consequences concept of zap 10 (but has much sharper teeth): If you go down and are the cause of an injury TO within 2 minutes of the end of the half, you sit the next half - either that game, or the next one. If a coach wants to burn a timeout prior to officials stopping the clock for an official's timeout, to 'save' the player(s) (plural because there has been at least one instance this year where 2 players obviously flopped mere feet from each other)) then they are more than welcome to do so.
Sucks if you are legit injured, but, if you are legit injured, there's a good chance you wouldn't be playing the next half anyway.
I rather like that idea. If an injury is the only thing that causes the clock to stop with less than 2:00 minutes remaining in the 2nd or 4th periods, the injured player must leave the game and may not participate in the game for the remainder of that period. If the injury occurs in the 2nd period of a game, that squad member may not participate in the remainder of the game. If the injury occurs in the 4th period of a game, that squad member may not participate in the first half of the next game.
(Obviously, if the injury is a direct result of a foul, then the clock will be stopped to complete the penalty, so that player would only be required to sit out one down.)
Yeah, I think that would probably do the job. A team COULD send in a third team player to 'flop' and not miss him for the remainder of that game and/or the first half of the next game. But, I don't think many teams would risk putting in a low-level substitute to make that happen, only to have their opponent 'beat' that substitute and make a big play.
I like it. Probably won't happen. But I think it would be good for the game.
Thankfully, we aren't really involved in that, anyway.
