Playoffs and Cold weather
« on: November 09, 2012, 01:27:46 PM »
Playoffs start in Northern California tonight. The weather at game time is looking cold by California standards. I know you guys in the Great White North probably don't think this is to bad but for us this going to be bad.

Temps at game time 41 degrees with a chance of rain showers.  :( Could actually see snow before the end of the game. I have to go get some warmer base layers.

For a moment I thought you said 41 degrees Celsius and thought ...

Then I realised you meant 41 degrees Farenheit  :)

We had our playoffs in Queensland yesterday too, in poor weather.  Over an inch of rain in the morning, and a constant shower during the playoffs in the evening and night.  I had to scramble round in the morning to fashion a rainproof pouch for our wireless microphone body-pack, and ended up having to wear a resealable sandwich bag on my belt.  Still, it worked great.

We were all quite keyed up for this, as being a minor sport that's just growing we don't usually get much media attention.  But the first time we had televised games for our local state league.  All four playoff games were televised.  Fortunately, mine went reasonably smoothly, though I'm sure my crew conspired to call multiple penalties on plays involving changes of team possession - it seemed every second time there was a change of team possession, we'd have two flags down.  Very close game, I had to throw a roughing the passer on the last timed play of the game, with Team A trailing 14-21 at that stage, giving them 1st and goal on a last untimed play.

We got lucky. Rain stopped before game time and the grounds crew did a good job getting the water off the field. Game was a blowout though.
