LSU-TCU end of 1st half
« on: September 01, 2013, 01:18:05 PM »
It was a bit of a cluster.  LSU 3/G B12, incomplete pass with :05 remaining, A70 helmet comes off, and LSU has no timeouts remaining.

R announces 10 second runoff.  Crew confers and they correctly restore :05 as the helmet off was not the only reason for game clock stoppage, so run off does not apply, but TCU has already headed for locker room. TCU then gets penalized for UNS, and LSU goes on to make FG to end the half.

Good learning play about not getting in a rush.  I don't have the ability to post the video, so perhaps one of our video gurus will be able to oblige.

UNS 5 yards?
was that a sideline interference? shouldn't a first and second sideline interference be called delay of game? Did 69 really got his first UNS and the team got penalized with 5 yards?

Also, GREAT explanation on why the runnoff didn't aply by LSU coach at the end of the video... think he heard that from one of the officials?

It was not a sideline issue.  TCU 96 came onto the field and accosted one of the officials without his helmet on.  Whatever he did or said drew the UNS flag. (One news report said he was "jawing" with a LSU player) The R said 5 yards probably thinking that would be half the distance.  Prev spot was 12 and they snapped at the 6 on FG.  In the confusion, LSU 70, the player who's lost helmet started the mess was allowed to play on the FG try.

The coach was wrong because he said the runoff did not apply as the player's helmet had been "taken off for him".

but wouldn't UNS and half the distance be auto 1st?

I know it wouldn't make much of a difference since there were only 5 secs on the clock and Team A would probably kick, but the R said replay 4th down.

ABout the coach's explanation, that's why I asked if the R told him what he told TV. Cause it's so wrong I wonder where did he get that from. Hate that irony is not explicit by text  ;)

at the snap 0:05 on the clock, time expired, seems like a lot of time to run off on a short FG.  Question is did everyone just want to get off the field?
