alright, about that play... snap is @ A-39 or A-40?

reception by A is @ A-40

so if snap was from A-39 is this a legal play because the NZ is extended or should this be blown dead?


Also, what is the extended neutral zone and when is it relevant?

The extended neutral zone applies only to team B players attempting to block the kick. If the snap is at A-39 and the kick is caught at A-40, it is a dead ball, 1st and 10 for team B.

I love it!

The box looks like it's at the A-40. The "receiver" (!) catches it while airborne at the A-39... but when he lands, the ball might or might not be juuuust over the A-40.

A kick continues to be a kick until it is caught or recovered. That means it's a kick until the Team A player lands with it. If he lands with the ball beyond the NZ, then the kick has crossed the NZ and it's dead when caught, i.e. when he lands.

Trick plays demand the highest degree of scrutiny. So if the wings are sure that the ball crossed the NZ, by even a little, they should so rule. On the other hand, if they aren't sure, I feel like Team A should get the benefit, trick play or not. Especially since I love this.

I've always felt that a play is legal unless it's clearly not legal. 

I also wonder how many coaches are now going to copycat this play.
