IMHO, football is the greatest sport in our land. The game teaches teamwork - only sync swimming requires more - and develops friendships that last a lifetime. In today's society, the term "greatest" is thrown around way too much. That being said, that label has been applied to many after the epic finish to Super Bowl LI....
  "Greatest Super Bowl ever"
  "Coach B - greatest coach ever"
  "Tom B - greatest QB ever"
  "Greatest comeback ever"

To me, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. To me, a proud member of Patriot Nation, it was the greatest Super Bowl ever. I had given up at halftime, the Mrs. went to bed after Lady Gaga sang her last note; "NOT ME :-[", said I as I felt like attending the funeral of a good friend - sad, but staying out of respect. The comeback was classic Brady - was it the greatest?? In my lifetime, the Red Sox ,coming from 3 games down to beat those dreaded Yankees in 2004 had been. The first two wins were epic, with Big Pappi providing the heroics in extra innings. The last two were blowouts in Yankee Stadium...I now feel this super bowl was better. In reality, the "Greatest Super Bowl ever" may have been Super Bowl III, when Broadway Joe & the Jets upset the 17 point favorite Colts. Prior to that, the AFL was considered by many like the Washington Generals - the team that travels with the Globetrotters and provides a weak, beatable opponent . After that, the AFL grew to par with the NFL and provides the excitement we have today. Scribes used to label the Colts beating my New York Football Giants in overtime for the NFL Championship as the "greatest game..." It wasn't for me as I had nightmares for several years after of peering at our 14" Philico TV with rabbit ears, as Alan "the Horse" Ameche bucked over my Giants' goal line :(.

Is Brady the greatest QB ??? ???? Well he has ice in his vains, as he certainly proved Sunday night. There have many great ones and we shouldn't forget Otto Garaham of the Cleveland Browns of that bygone era - played for 10 years and took the Browns to the NFL Championship all 10. Brady has played longer and taken the Pats to the Super Bowl fewer. ??? ???

Is Coach B the greatest ever??? The average Monday morning QB usually starts with questioning officiating calls . Second in line then becomes questioning play calls. ::) We can all think of plays that were called that didn't work and critique. Fortunately, Coach B has very few of those in big games.

Is football the greatest game ??? ??? ???? Not a doubt in my mind :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup, how about yours? Thank any of you that took the time to read my rants and ravings and thank you for all that you do for our great game tiphat:

Our last week of vacation took us to a Karoke bar. I was wearing a Patriot cap. There were no Patriot fans there and I received some good natured ribbing. So, I sang the following:

 TO THE TUNE OF : Tom Dooley - Kingston Trio - cira 1958

  Hold up your head, Tom Brady, hold up your head and sigh,
   hold up your head Tom Brady, those Falcons they ain't gonna' fly;

(First Verse)
 This time next Sunday, recon where I'll be,
   If Bledsoe hadn't been injured, I might have been traded to Tennessee;

(Second Verse)
  This time next Sunday, recon where I'll be,
   Waving the Super Bowl trophy, while the Commish has to go and pee;

(Third Verse)
  This time next Sunday, recon where I'll be,
    Down in Sam Houston's valley, earning another MVP....

The patrons liked my song but still didn't like the Patriots. I needed not to pay for my future drinks that evening.

      aWaRd aWaRd aWaRd aWaRd aWaRd

On a non-related event : the Red Sox equipment truck left Fenway Park on Monday for it's trip to Ft Myers. To we of Patriot/Red Sox nation, that's the sign that Spring is near - the ground hog doesn't count uphere :) :)

Ralph you are right, it was the best Super Bowl I have seen and I have seen all 51 games.  Coach B has a great system there, my only wish was that he stayed with the New York (Football) Giants.  The Yankee's equipment truck is also on the way to spring training.

Congratulations Ralph, it was an amazing come-back.  If you want to buy anyone a drink, you might find out who's idea it was for the Falcons to switch from a 4 man 1st half pass rush, that gave Brady a really hard time, to their 2nd half 3 man pass rush, that allowed him to do his thing.

I was getting all the political jokes and despite my leanings, they were pretty funny. That was right up there among the greatest football games I've ever seen, and I wasn't even there. I've been a Pats fan since I was 6, and the fact that they ended up winning hasn't sunk in yet.

Did Atlanta let Hillary Clinton coach the team in the second half?

The first three quarters of the Super Bowl were incredible. The 4th quarter does not exist.

;DI have felt your pain ;D, after the Pats' two Super Bowl loses to the Giants I erased their recording and waited for the Red Sox equipment truck to arrive in Ft. Myers. Conversely I have watched the 4th quarter and OT several times (often with an adult beverage)  :).

Funny, Ralph... I can say the same about the 10th inning of Game 7.  Minus the adult beverage, since I don't drink...

I kind of wish I lived in the Northeast, Ralph. Not much for baseball, but they do have good sports in Boston. I watch the highlights of the Pats' comeback and see the faces of the Atlanta fans and I can't help but think of that Blink 182 song from when I was a kid to describe their thoughts...

Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home.

Well, two out of the three preseason magazines through which I flipped the other night have the Cubs and Red Sox in the series, though you won't like the results if they're right. The other had Boston over the Nats, I think it was.

I'm just amazed I can look at a magazine making a prediction like that without thinking "great, now they've jinxed it. Wait til next year...."
