Hot weather clothing
« on: July 02, 2018, 08:37:00 AM »
Up in the Canada, we have a crazy heat wave.  It's very hot, it's very humid.  Sun burns are the norm now.

I was wondering if there is reliable, light, effective, hot weather clothing.  Some to wear down to the wrist and with a turtleneck that would cover as much of the neck as possible.

To us who live with heat much of the year, less is better for comfort.

Now to combat sunburn, sunscreen would be the best option. Also most of us have uniform requirements we must deal with.

You might consider using ArcticCool along with a good sunscreen.  Columbia also makes long sleeve, SPF items which are quite good.

Under Armour shirt, sunscreen and a cool flo neck towel is how I get through 100 degree 7 on 7 tournaments

Buy 50 SPF sunblock and 45 SPF chapstick. Coppertone and Banana Boat work very well. Underarmour heat gear tights under your uniform (full leggings if you wear pants) work wonders in the 100-plus degree games we work in Central California. Also, drink pickle juice and eat lots of mustard and salty food leading up to your game along with the water to prevent heat cramps. I am fair skinned and don't get sunburned with a good sport sunblock.

Since a longlseeve SPF top a la Columbia or some of the other fishing brands just won't do with the SS officiating shirt and shorts, less is more.  For really hot afternoons, I tend to wear a sleeveless compression undershirt and the shorter variety of compression shorts.  other than that, there isn't much one can do wearing a lot of black.  I make sure to have a dry t-shirt and shorts to change into once the game(s) are over and keep lots of water iced down.

The Gold Bond spray powder is the BOMB!

I miss the old micromesh shirts from the 1" days.

Honig's has a good, light 'tech' officials' shart.
if wearing long-sleeves underneath, I assume the underarmour will work.
For sunblock, I use the spray-on banana boat spf50.  AND make sure you rub it in s spraying can miss some spots - zont want zebra strips sunburns.
Dont forget the nose and ears when doing face/neck.

You can't beat a base layer of a sweat wicking fabric such as an Under Armor heat shirt. I personally prefer the compression versions. I wear one right up until it gets cold enough to switch to the cold weather version.
