10-4-2 says any K foul before the end of the kick, except KCI, can be tacked on at the succeeding spot, as long as R would put the ball in play next.
Naturally, I started thinking up some unusual ways that this condition could be true. Can K's foul still get tacked on in these two situations?
1. Team K trails by 3 points late in the 4th quarter. K1's field goal attempt is tipped and rolls down the field. R55 picks up the ball at the R-4 and retreats (no momentum) into his end zone where he is tackled. The clock reads 0:02. Prior to the kick, K88 committed a personal foul at the line of scrimmage. Team R's coach says, "We'll concede the safety, but we want to free-kick from the 35, not the 20." Can they?
2. 2nd and 10 at the R-35. Team K is attempting a trick play at the end of the 2nd quarter. Quarterback K11 receives the snap and pitches the ball forward to split end K88, running an end-around. K88 then tosses the ball to K11, but this pass is also forward. Seeing that the play is a failure, K11 punts the ball. The kick rolls out of bounds at the R-4. Time expires in the 2nd quarter during the down. Team K had won the opening coin toss and had deferred. Team R's coach says, "That's an illegal forward pass by the kicking team. Loss of down, so the quarter is not extended. If they elect to receive the 2nd half kickoff, we get to kick off from the 45, not the 40." Is that right?
