I had a bad experience at my game last Friday, although it has nothing to do with my fellow clock operator on the game clock.
Here is a list of events that happened.
Get to the stadium early, like I usually do.
Go to the officials (locker) room to have some dinner (The school I was at actually had some raising canes for the officiating crew)
Had a quick pre-game with the R, it was quick because I had worked for this R at the same school last year
Go up to the pressbox to do my pre-game checks (Make sure the play clock is working)...ran the play clock three time and it was working fine before kickoff
Fast forward to the start of the game...set the play clock to twenty five seconds and started it on the R's signal. I look over and see the play clock stopping and then skipping three to four seconds.
I then look at the GC operator and ask him if he saw the same thing I was seeing, just to double check and he said yes (although it did take a little while, I knew he had to focus on his job too). Eventually the R noticed and had me shutdown the play clock and had the BJ keep it on the field.
Then there I was, out of a job for the night

I decided to stay and watch the game and get paid for it, since I did show up and sign the pay sheet. In addition, by good fortune, the home team had scored at the start of the third quarter, which put the home team up by more than 40 points which meant running clock for the duration of the game (This was TAPPS game, don't know if the UIL has a mercy rule or not).
I was home right at 9.30pm.
The scoreboard and play clock were new, as part of the school's field renovation. Just goes to show you how haywire modern technology is sometimes
