In the example given, they used a ball thrown in from the sideline, not the ball currently in the game. Still can't do it. But, yes, the U should be near the ball in the game, and certainly it can't be used for anything. In fact, no ball may used for anything on the field of play during the game (except during halftime) - not even practice snaps or loosening of throwing arms. Do that in your team area, fellas. If, somehow, they manage to do something like that - even a practice kick - there is no foul. That is on us. We simply must be vigilant and not allow such things to happen.
