Horse Collar Rule
« on: October 22, 2022, 08:44:25 PM »
Watching Penn State and Minnesota. A few Minnesota guys have hoodies on that come down to the nameplate. If you grab the hoodie and pull down is that a horse collar tackle? Or is like pulling a runner down by their hair?

It is a uniform attachment and not a foul. Similar to the hair as you noted. NCAA addressed this earlier in the season.

  • The rules are there if you need them.

And I have yet to figure out what a hoodie does, if it isn't covering the head. Why wear it at all, if you don't use it to cover your head? But, as long as it ain't a foul to grab it, so be it.

Because they think it looks cool. If you're trying to find any other reason for it, you're missing the obvious.

This is similar to the super long undershirts that make it look like they're wearing a dress, or rolling up their uniform to expose their abs and back pads.

We had a ball carrier get tackled by the "hoodie" last weekend. Who knows how many yards he might have gotten or whether he may have scored sans "hoodie". One would think the coaches might not want players wearing them.

Coaches have no control over what players wear.  Look at their pants and how they wear their jerseys.

Coaches have no control…

Maybe not today. But they, along with their paddles, had control in my day. We need those days to come back, not only for sports, but for society and culture in general.

Just like when players lose their cool. It’s the officials that lost control, not the coaches.

Nonsense, Coaches still have all the control they need, IF they are WILLING to exercise it.
