Glove Memo

I just received this.  If I'm not mistaken, the change in the rule states that gloves may be of any color.  What differenced does it make if teams have already ordered gloves?  I see no reason this rule still can't be implemented, you just wear the gloves that were purchased.

SUBJECT: Glove Color Rule – Delayed Implementation (2012).
The Football Rules Committee recently proposed a rules change concerning the
color of gloves used during competition. As part of the NCAA’s playing rules
process, a membership comment period was conducted and several Division II
and III members raised concerns regarding the proposed rule’s immediate
implementation. While the rule is actually less restrictive than the one that
preceded it, some institutions indicated that gloves had already been ordered for
two seasons; others noted that purchases had been made for the upcoming season
before this rule was proposed.
The Division I membership was strongly supportive of the new rule and did not
mention any material concerns with immediately eliminating the restriction.
In the past week, the Football Rules Committee and Playing Rules Oversight
Panel reviewed the rule as well as comments received. Both groups have voted to
delay implementation of the new glove rule until the 2012 competition season for
Divisions II and III, while retaining the original implementation date of 2011 for
Division I only.

I agree, if they can be any color what difference does it make what color they have ordered................

Honestly, what difference does it make if you have already order grey gloves or not.  You just wear what you have, and order the different color for the next season.  Sounds like people POURING and moaning over nothing.

My 'opinion' is that these II & III coaches see themselves being put at a disadvantage (compared to FCS & FBS). Those with decent budgets may have already bought/ordered gray gloves. Others that haven't bought gloves yet, now have the opportunity to get colored gloves. The ones that have already bought gray gloves (and can't/won't spring for new colored gloves) see themselves at a competitive disadvantage, in that the other guys will get away with more holding since the other guys' gloves may match the opponent's jerseys, making it more difficult for officials to detect holding (or so they perceive).
That's how paranoid these guys are.
