Ball was kicked into the ground, so no KCI. The ball wasn't touched until it was beyond B's restraining line -anybody's ball. Looked like A recovered.
A B blocker advanced and met an A rusher about the A-48 - no foul, because B initiated the block, and A players have the right to defend themselves, which is all he was doing. (Note: ball was kicked from the A-40.)

Mechanically, start the clock when the ball is touched; stop the clock when scrum starts, then give the ball to the guy that comes up with it.  :)

I also thought this was a legal block, appears that the team B player moves forward and blocks.

My take was it was initiated by B but even if it had not been, did it really have an impact on play?  The ball had gone way over their heads and was going to another area of the field where it could be played. The block had absolutely no effect on Team B's ability to make a play on the ball.

Agree with Welpe - B player IMO is clearly turned toward ball, watching flight of the actual kick, and does not initiate the contact.  A cannot block him in this location before the ball has travelled the required 10 yards. ^flag

Screen capture below.  Click on the picture to enlarge it and note that the ball is the blurry object about to go behind the score bar.  Camera angle may be distorting the actual spot a bit but it's certainly not at or beyond the 50 yard line.  Closer to 47-1/2 to 48 yard line.  Don't disagree that ball is going "over the head" of the B player, but IMO I'm not going with a advantage-disadvantage call here.  Ball hasn't gone 10, and the B player is watching the ball, I've got a flag.   ^flag

Even if Team A had initiated the contact it would be hard to call because of the height of the ball.  At that height you see either thr ball or look down at the players.  You can't see both from the field.

Yep, even more reeason why we have to rely on cross-field guys to get this call if it is there.  They are farther away and might be able to judge that better
