It would have been funny if he would have came out of the pile with the ball in his possession.

haha!

or if he signalled which team recovered while he was still within the pile.  just a striped, indicatory sleeve emerging from the pile.

(hope he's ok of course!)

I was watching that on NFL Redzone, I didn't even realise there was an official in there until I saw the replay.

Ouch.

Wow, and it wasn't as though he was in the wrong spot mechanically.  This was just a freak deal.  Maybe its time to make a rule that allows an official to sound his whistle when the ball is fumbled toward him in order to prevent injury to himself.

Yea, after seeing Mike's vid, Ron did everything perfectly. As soon as he realized he was going down, he turtled up and just let it happen. A+ for him there

Also good on Ron for not having the whistle in his mouth.

With a 3 ft. long lanyard, he'd be likely to hang himself.

Ron, just FYI for future reference, if the official gains possession of a fumble, it isn't the zebra's ball!  No reason to dive for it.

I'm a white hat who's about Ron's age & body build, and I also wear glasses.  I also got run over on an INT return last Friday night.

Must have been a lunar anomaly!

Well sign me up as a test subject!  It may take quite a few times for me to determine whether or not I enjoy it.

OK, I know I'm late to the party, but I just cracked up reading this one, and got some strange looks from the rest of the people in my office...

First rule of the pile, nobody talks about what happens in the pile...not that I would know anything about that from my playing years.

I just saw this also, you know why the other zebras are running to the pile? To make sure they can pull Ron out before one of them has to wear the white hat (and receive an on the spot frontal lobotomy).  ;D
