Fumble at the 1 yard line

This play (and subsequent ruling) is interesting to say the least and has lead to quite a bit of discussion elsewhere. you may find it interesting and I bet there will be differing opinions here as well  :sTiR:

1:08 is where the fun starts.

The ruling was IW (after the ball was dead) and replay the down

How do youhave a IW "after the ball was dead"?  Ball came to rest, nobody attempted to secure it, ball becomes dead and belongs to Team B here.  TD

Yeah I know - it was a game in Germany. The poster said the whistle was at 1:13 - I thought I hear one at the fumblw but it was probably a scream.

I did say it was controversial.

Even if it was an IW, why would you replay the down?  The decision beongs to the team last in possession, which was B.  They would take the ball at the spot where the ball came loose, which would give them the ball on the 1.  (4-1-2-b2)

Was the whistle a little quick?  Yes.  I would certainly expect a few seconds of someone realizing what was going on before calling it dead with no one attempting to recover it, and this one came pretty fast after the ladies landed on the ground.

I think the correct call is a TD for B.  But worst case, B gets the ball 1st and G at the 1.  There is no proper result that results in a replay of the down unless B unwisely makes that choice.

I agree with TXMike and AB, nobody attempting to secure the loose ball, the whistle is not IW, TD for team B.
