Uniform Checklist
« on: August 25, 2013, 07:38:05 PM »
Does anyone have a uniform checklist that they can upload on here? When traveling the games that is the only I am thinking about makes sure I have everything. I think if i had a checklist when I am pack my bag it would make me feel a lot better and I can think about the game more.

Everyone packs differently. Try getting dressed at home before that first night out as if you were about to work a game. As you do so, make your list and build on it from there. Once I felt comforable enough to get away from a "list" I started to pack the bag in the same order as I would as if I were putting the uniform on, right down to the accessories (flag, beanbag, card, etc.). After a while it becomes second nature.

I've never made a list.  I pack a Thursday bag and a Friday bag.  As I pack I tell myself everything I have packed.  I will then double check it to see that everything is in there.  As the weather changes, the items change.

For accessories-flags, bags, whistles, etc, I keep them all in a zippered vinyl bank deposit bags.  I put all of them back in it as soon as the game is over and then put the bag back in the ttravel bag..

not a checklist really, more of a review from the bottom-up as i get things out & put them on the bed.
shoes, socks, compression shorts, pants, belt, etc...
I try to keep my "ditties" in the car (one-less thing to search for & pack)
'ditties' - flags, bags, whistle, hat, pencil, etc. (sometimes shoes too)

REMEMBER too, to pack your post game clothes as well as soap, towel. - you finally pack everything for the game, everything is there (GREAT!!!).  But you forget your post game stuff....   :o

I use this one since early in my career ... after seeing a fellow ref being force to work a game with a pair of blue jeans on because being rushed out to work that game.

Hope it may help!

The Best way that I know to make sure I have it all, is keep it all in my bag. When they get washed they get folded and put in bag right then so I don't have to spend time looking for them when I am ready to leave. I keep all warm weather and cold weather gear in their all the time as well because in Texas you never know when the weather will change. Also I work Tuesdays and Thursdays prior to Friday nights so its just easier to keep it all together in one bag. So as long as I remember my bag then I will be good to go  ;D

The best checklist, I have come up with in 27 years of doing this is..................

DO NOT LET YOUR WIFE PACK YOUR BAG!!!

I wash mine, fold mine and put it back into the gamebag. That way I know it is there and where it is. pHiNzuP

The note would be nice, but hard to wear the note instead of your compression shorts!   yEs:

maybe the wife thinks compression shorts are ugly and and your normal underwear suffice just fine, or you need a good chafing.   never know with those wifes.
course she may also pack something special for you to wear home from the game (cue the music).   yEs:

Here is a list (and explanation) that I have developed over the last 34 years. At the start of the season I distribute one to each member of the crew in a page protector and ask them to use it and place it in the bag for every week's use. Unfortunately, either my guys are pretty sharp and they don't want me po'd or they just don't like buying adult beverages after our meetings.

Hey Mike, I'm curious about how you use your golf tee.
You write 'to mark chain locations at start of series'
Isn't that basically what the clip is for, to reset the chains if they need to get dumped?

I had read the suggestion to use a tee for the down marker when within 10 and there is no chains, or when the LOS is well back behind the chains.

Exactly, James. reaps my explanation on paper wasn't clear but my face-to-face with my crew is on target and regardless if the stadium is field turf or synthetic, a tee works just fine. in Texas we are celebrating Kickoff Thursday, the start of the 2013 season. James, what were you doing up at 4:15 a.m.?

Mike,

I think many of our friends are in different countries in other time zones, either that or they need much less sleep than I.   ;D
