KCI Razorbacks vs Gators

1:54 left in second quarter. Florida punt returner has ball bounce off his arms and Arkansas player catches the muff. Flag for KCI. No contact made by kicking team. Can someone explain the NCAA rule on KCI?

Yes.What I am hearing is the receiver must be given the opportunity to complete the catch even if he hobbled it. That differs from Federation rule on fair catch.

That is correct. Off the top of my head - Rule 6-4-1.

It does appear to be a 6-5-1-b, not 6-4-1-b, infraction.  If so and A39 were not so close to the punt receiver, the muffed kicked may have hit the ground.  Then A could legally recover the ball.

That's a tough break for the kicking team member.  He's in a perfectly legal location and the muff by the returner caused it to contact him.  Be alert and ready to move if you are going to be that close.  Great get by the crew!

that was interference before the ball got to the returner by violation of the 1 yard halo in front of him

I disagree. His position was very close, but not directly in front of the Receiver.
The KCI is because the D player made a fair catch signal, bobbled the kick and while it was still in the air the kicking team player made a grab for it.

I agree we have KCI anyways after the muff... but I don't know I wouldn't call A player in front of the returner
