This week's CFO Video, Play 5
PAT attempt, bad snap, team A and B players are chasing the ball which is rolling far behind the LOS. As they approach it, the B player's foot strikes the ball and propels it even further backwards. Another B player picks it up and takes it in for the apparent score. There is a flag down as crew believes the kick was intentional. RR discusses the penalty enforcement and indicates that Team A cannot accept the penalty (to get a replay of the PAT down) but refuse the yardage.
Seems to me since Team A can elect to put the ball anywhere between the hashes on or behind the opponent’s 3 yard line on the initial try down, wouldn’t they have that same privilege after the penalty is accepted? As soon as it is accepted , the penalty is completed. Then , as long as A tells the U where they want the ball placed before it is whistled ready for play, it seems A should be able to ask for it to be spotted at the 3 yard line.
What am I missing?
