Fourth quarter, 7:06. Stanford calls a screen play, judging by the numerous interior linemen who charge downfield before the forward pass, if I recall, hits the ground beyond the neutral zone. Did anyone discuss this play at the time?
I didn't see whether it was intended for a receiver who had fallen down, or whether it was an intentional throwaway. If the former, it makes sense there'd be no flag since philosophically we don't call IDF on a screen pass that would not have crossed the neutral zone if it was successful. If the latter, does the same no-foul philosophy apply even when the pass isn't wildly out of bounds?
