I like ours, 1A, 2A, 3A, etc. 1 is the smallest, naturally and goes up to 6.

Ditto for Virginia - 1A through 6A, largest schools in 6.

1A (small) - 7A (humongous) here.

This is our first year for class 7A, which is the 32 largest schools.  The rest are grouped into classes of (roughly) 64 teams each.  Adding class 7A greatly reduces the disparity between enrollment size in the other classifications.

Any idea what the disparity is from the biggest to smallest in 7A?

1978 for largest school in state (Hoover) - 1008 for smallest school in 7A (James Clemens)

Numbers are 10-12 grades and private schools under the AHSAA are multiplied by 1.35 (the arbitrary percentage given for "recruiting" abilities)

That's not bad. Tx 6a has teams from 2500 to over 5000

Well, back to original subject.  2013 KY 4A championship, rematch of 2012 championship that "Powerhouse" (6-time defending champion) won 47-0.  Powerhouse leads by 3 under 1 minute in 4th quarter.  Underdogs in red zone.  Next to last play of game, QB's helmet comes off as he's tackled.  Team takes timeout.  QB tries to stay in game, but not allowed.  Backup QB (first snap of playoffs) gets play from coach as running onto field and throws game winning TD pass as time expires.

If play is stopped for an injured player, the team cannot take a team TO to get him back in the game.  That used to be the rule, but not any longer.  Must sit out 1 play.

This was a helmet coming off, not an injury. The QB should have been allowed back in the game since his team was granted a charged timeout.

Timeout does not buy an injured player nor a helmetless player back in in NFHS.

Learn something new every day. Here in Texas/NCAA you can buy back a helmetless player, but not an injured one.
