Drying out shoes?
« on: October 04, 2016, 10:28:54 AM »
My cleats got soaked during a recent game in a rainstorm. Anyone have suggestions on good ways to dry them out? I'd rather not just sit there with a hair dryer...

Here are a couple of options.

1. Put them on the floor in front of the refrigerator.  There is a little bit of air movement under there and they will dry out in a couple of days.
2. If you don't have that long, pull the shoe strings tight and tie them together at the end.  Then put them in your dryer making sure the knot in the shoe strings is outside of the door.  This will cause them to hang in the dryer and not get tumbled.  The hot air will dry them pretty quickly.

You can buy a low heat shoe dryer that will dry them in about 12 hour hrs. Outdoors shops like Bass Pro, Cabellas, and Gander Mountain carry them. Even Wal Mart might be an option.

Stuff them with newspaper, roll up a ball from each page (this will draw out the moisture) and put them in a warm but not hot place.  Depending how wet, replace the newspaper the next morning.

My option has them DRY the next morning. And I recall the investment was less than 30 bucks

This.

Depending on how wet they are, they should be good in a day or 2.  Just keep changing the paper

I loosen the laces, pull back the tongue, put a dryer sheet in each shoe and lay them with the opening facing the bottom of the refrigerator.  They are usually dry overnight unless they are extremely soaked then it may take a day.

I buy a new pair each year, then rotate three pair all season. Soaked shoes are hung from the shelf of my work bench by the ends of the shoe strings with a fan blowing on them all night long.

I have never heard of such a thing. I will definitely investigate.

Newspaper? On actual newsprint? I didn't realize that was still a thing.  ;D

You need some sort of desiccant:

So my actual solution, this time, ended up being this - got a shipment of lab equipment for work that had a bunch of small silica gel packets in it and the light bulb went on. Worked great. But I still think I may look into Rulesman's shoe dryer.
