Help with Contacts.
« on: October 14, 2016, 12:47:24 PM »
I have had to start wearing contacts during football.  I have a problem if its windy and it cool that my contact tend to dry out and get sticky,  I carry a bottle of eye drys with me on he field and when I get a chance i place a couple of drops in my eyes but that seems like a temporary fix  interested on what other officials do in this situation

Thanks

Do the sunglasses with interchangeable lenses come with clear lenses too? Wear them as regular glasses?

Edit: looks like at least one company makes them with clear lenses...  http://www.zappos.com/tifosi-optics-elder-interchangeable-crystal-brown

I have been wearing contacts for 43 years. First, if you are just now starting to wear contacts, you tear production may adjust over time to help with the dryness. Second, make sure you rehydrating drops are good quality it will wet the lenses better and last longer. Third, it is an issues you just have to deal with. Dry eyes are a nuisance, when my eyes dry out most of the time, I am able to continue without rehydrating. Another thing, your eyes dry out over time. If you wait until the last minute to put your contacts in, it may extend the time before your eyes dry out enough that you need the drops.

As to lasik, some of us are way too near-sighted to get lasik.

I used a goodlooking pair of clear safety glasses,  and it worked out great. There was a light mist and a light breeze. Had no troubles last night the pair I wore does not look like the old ugly glasses I was use to wearing as a teen,  these were stylish look like a pair of regular glasses

Are clear eyes made specifically for contacts? I use drops that are made for contacts and they help quite a bit.

DO NOT use clear eyes with contacts. It will damage the contacts and burns like heck!

Want to ask me how I know?   pi1eOn

I've graduated law school, gotten married, had a beautiful kid, and my greatest accomplishment in life is getting lasik. I wore contacts for 20 years, there's no magic fix to the issues you describe. Just wait until one falls out and you officiate the rest of the night with one eye.

Seriously, the day after you get the surgery you will wonder why the heck you didn't do it years ago.

I've just been prescribed Ultra "Monthly Disposables" and I've worn them for a week. They seems to retain moisture better than daily Acuvue disposables.

Link didn't work as planned but I think you can figure it out.

This is the response I've gotten from literally 100% of the people I've asked about lasik, which is why I'm going to take the plunge this off season

I routinely tell people that Lasik is the best $$$ that I've ever spent.  I went from 20/400 (my contacts were -4.0) in both eyes before my surgery to 20/20 in my left eye and 20/15 in my right eye.   Ther are really no issues that they cannot correct with lasik any more.

If you company has a Medical Spending Account (MSA) you may want to consider funding it through a payroll deduction as the deduction is made on a pre-tax basis which will lower your taxable income, plus don't forget to claim whatever you pay for the proceedure as a medical expense when you file your taxes, you may be able to double dip if you have enough medical expenses for the year.

Exactly what I'm doing.

I haven't found too many people with astigmatism only, which is what I have.  Usually everyone I talk to has either near or farsightedness.  I'm still going with it.

I was near sighed and had a slight astigmatism, which they corrected.  They can fix just about anything with lasik now.

They can't fix my near-sightedness. They can only make me less near-sighted. Checked into and they told me I would have to go with lens replacement, so I am waiting to develop cataracts, so insurance will cover it. LOL

With the advent of wavefront/custom Lasik, it's been pretty commonplace to treat people with astigmatism. I had moderate astigmatism in one eye and mild in the other. I came almost entirely cured of it with 20/15 vision. Best decision I ever made - like most, only regret was not doing it sooner.
