What can I expect working R was one of the first things that came to mind.
External sources are going to look to you to be the final arbiter of most decisions, however you are still part of a team, each of which is an asset at your disposal to insure you have the necessary information to make the correct decision. Consistently seeking that buy-in from crew members requires soliciting their input, listening to it and trusting it.
Your Umpire is your most available counsel, verbalizing your understanding, of what you're dealing with and how you're anticipating handling, consistently, and then seeking his concurrence, or addressing and reviewing his concerns can help insure your decisions are appropriate. When there is any doubt, or indecision, seeking additional input from additional crew members, and considering it, is advisable.
Of course any such discussions are private between you and which ever crew mates are involved. When there is agreement, the decisions should be announced by YOU, if additional explanation is requested, and YOU deem it appropriate, do so ONLY at the sideline, with a crew mate (often the calling official if appropriate, or usually the Umpire) as your witness, and if necessary to assist you.
Patience and listening are necessary attributes of most conferences, but YOU have to maintain control and the decorum and tone of each discussion.
