A 1/10@B-25 QB A1 throws a pass to A21 who is standing in the middle of the EZ cutting back toward the goal-line. A21 first controls the ball while airborne 1 yard into the EZ. His airborne momentum brings him to the B-1 where he first contacts the ground with a foot. His momentum continues and he falls to the ground. The ball is at the B-4 when his knee hits the ground. B60 is flagged for roughing the passer. Ruling


A 2/2@B-42 (the previous play was a QB scramble that ended in-bounds) The 2nd quarter is coming to an end. the offense sets with twin WRs to the right. after they set for one second both receivers shift to the other side of the formation. before they set the ball is snapped and QB A1 runs up the middle to the B-39. ruling clock?

1. Forward progress does not apply as he isn't contacted by an opponent during this time. A 1/10@B-2, 25, ready.

2. This is an illegal shift as the team did come to a full one second stop. Five yards from the previous spot, A 1/10@B-372/7@B-47, 25, ready.

In 2, what is the time and the score? Would B have a snap option?

True, should have checked, the option applies even if the clock is stopped for another reason (first down).

And an very current question, as we now have 'guidance' in the rule that we can "consider" applying 9-4-3 inside 5 minutes in the 2nd or 4th periods, and we are to apply it when under 2-minutes in the 2nd or 4th periods. (By 'applying it,' I mean that the offended team - behind in score or tied - is to be given the option of when the game clock will next start.)

Unless I'm missing something in the second situation the ruling would be 5 yard from the previous spot which would be 2/7 @ B47. I agree with everything else above.

Concur. The sun was in Kalle's eyes and he got confused on which direction he was going.  ;D
