Clemson - UGA punt that hit UGA player

Around 5:00 left in 2nd quarter.  Grounded punt appears to hit off Clemson player's leg (K) just before hitting UGA player's foot. Call stands after replay.  But if it hit K prior to R, shouldn't R have had the ball with first touching?

I don’t know what “first touching” is, but if Team A touches a punted ball beyond the neutral zone before Team B touches it, that is illegal touching, and Team B would have the ability to invoke the illegal touching privilege, and take the ball at the spot of illegal touching.
Don’t know anything about the down you reference.

Was there a penalty by R on this down? because if there was first touching is ignored.  If there was no penalty and IF this was high school football then whenever K first touches a scrimmage kick R could choose to take the results of the play or choose the spot of first touching to begin their series.

Actually an accepted penalty for a live-ball foul by either team (or offsetting fouls) will cause the illegal touching privilege to be cancelled.

Well, Team B clearly touched the ball, but there is no clear evidence that it was touched by Team A before it was touched by B. And that is in slow motion, close angle video review.

What was ruled on the field? What did the RO determine?

I agree.  There's no evidence that it touched A, whereas there is that it touched B.  I don't see an Illegal Touch on this play.

Ruling was touch by B. Recovery by A. IR said stands I believe.   It was that or confirmed as A snapped on next play.  TV recording did not have the R announcement after review. And watching on the big screen, it WAS touched by left foot/ankle of B

Disclaimer: I have no dog in this hunt, at all. Don't care which team got the better end of this deal, or who won.

I went back and looked at it in stop motion, frame by frame, and there is daylight between the A player and the ball all the way. He never touched it (or, it never touched him, however you want to look at it). But, it definitely deflected off the B player's foot. The ruling on the field, and the 'stands' ruling by the RO are righteous (although I would always prefer a 'confirmed' ruling when the evidence is this clear, IMHO).

I'm going to disagree with you guys: I know its a flat angle and impossible to prove, but the Clemson player's foot did touch the ball. However, I think the UGa player's leg also touched it slightly before, so ultimately the call was correct. Now, is there "evidence" of any of that? Depends on how you define the word, evidence, but I can only state what I see and that's what I see. You may see it differently. It would take the statements of the players and even if they were telling the truth, who knows if they honestly felt it. But the UGa returner obviously felt it hit the UGa player as he made a move to get to the ball and he was in the best position to see everything in 3d.

Not definitive, but I think that's better than our opinions. No?

Touch or no touch, this is a good training tape.
