S-B Quiz Week 2
« on: September 10, 2021, 07:53:11 AM »
I'll keep trying until get it right.
-----------------------------------

1. 3/10 @ A-40. QB A12’s pass is intercepted by B22 at the B-45. He returns the ball to the A-30 where he is hit and fumbles. A17 picks up the loose ball and runs to the A-42 where he is tackled.
RULING: A, 1/10, A-42, ready (40 and running)
The change of possession during the down breaks Team A’s original series; thus, when they are in legal possession at the end of the down, they are awarded a new series. This is no different that if team A had simply advanced the ball beyond the line-to-gain, so the play clock is set to 40 and starts automatically after the ball becomes dead from the previous down.

2. 3/7 @ B-30. B22 intercepts a pass at the B-4 and his momentum carries him into the EZ. He tries to advance into the field of play but is tackled in the EZ. During B22’s run, B55 blocks A88 below the waist at the B-8.
RULING: B, 1/10, B-4, snap (25).
By rule, the Basic Spot for fouls that occur after a change of team possession in the end zone, and the natural result of the down is a touchback, is the succeeding spot – in this case, the B-20. By 3 & 1, the penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul, ½ the distance to B’s goal line.

3. 2/5 @ A-45. QB A12 drops back to pass and in an attempt to sack the QB, B75 grasps his face mask at the A-40, causing him to fumble. The ball is recovered by B68 at the A-40 and he runs to the A-35 where he steps out of bounds.
RULING:  A, 2/20, B-40, ready (25).
The FMM occurred during A12’s run, which ended behind the NZ; thus, the Basic Spot for that foul is the previous spot. By 3 & 1, the 15-yard penalty is enforced from the Basic Spot, and the penalty includes a first down. Since Team B will NOT next snap the ball, the game clock will start on the referee’s signal.

4. 4/10 @ B-25. In the 1st possession series of the 1st extra period, A97’s field goal attempt is blocked, and the ball does not cross the neutral zone and is recovered by A15 at the B-30. A15 advances to the B 14.
RULING: A, 1/10, B-14, no game clock (40 and running).
Since the scrimmage kick did not cross the NZ or come into B’s possession, Team A’s series was not broken. A15’s advance was legal, and his advance beyond the LTG earns Team A a new series. The play clock continues to operates as with any scrimmage series, i.e., is set to 40 seconds and starts when the ball becomes dead with the previous down.

5. 1/10 @ 50. Quarterback A12 rolls to his right and from the A-47 pitches to A5 who muffs the ball at the A-46. The ball rolls out of bounds at the A-48. The clock is stopped with 1:59 remaining in the second quarter.
RULING: A, 2/12, A-48, snap (40 and running).
The pass was backward, and simply belongs to A where it went OB, next down. Since the ball went OB with less that 2 minutes in the second period, the game clock will next start on the snap. The play clock continues to operate as normal, i.e., set to 40 seconds and starts when the ball becomes dead with the previous down.

6. 2/25 @ A-10. A12's pass is complete to A81 at the A-9, and he carries the ball to the A-20 where he is tackled inbounds. Prior to the pass, B24 held eligible receiver A86 at the A-25.
RULING: A, 2/15, A-20, ready (25).
Because the pass did not cross the NZ, the penalty for B24’s holding foul does NOT include a first down, and is penalized per 3 & 1 from the Basic Spot, which is the previous spot. The penalty takes the ball to the same yard line as the natural result of the down (A-20), but allows Team A to repeat the down from there. Team A will accept the penalty.

7. 2/5 @ A-45. Ball carrier A33 breaks out into the open and has a clear path to the goal line. At the B-4 he suddenly makes a sharp left turn and trots along the B-4 looking back and taunting the Team B players as they begin to catch up to him. He then carries the ball into the end zone.
RULING: A, 1/10, B-19, snap (25).
A33’s actions are a live-ball UNS foul, which cancels the score, and the 15-yard penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul. After the penalty, Team A is still beyond the LTG, so Team A is awarded a first down at that spot. A33 has ‘one’ added to his UNS ‘counter.’

8. 2/10 @ A-40. In a shotgun formation A11 takes the backward pass from the snapper and hands the ball off to back A44. A44 takes a few steps toward the line of scrimmage and then throws a backward pass to A11, who is still inside the tackle box. Avoiding tacklers, A11 scrambles outside the tackle box, and unable to find an open receiver, at the A-35 he throws the ball toward an area where there are no eligible receivers, and it lands out of bounds beyond the neutral zone.
RULING: A, 3/15, A-35, snap (25).
After A44 took possession of the ball, no Team A player could legally ground the ball (by going outside the TB, and then throwing the ball across the NZ - only the receiver of the snap may do that, before any other player gets possession of the ball). A11’s incomplete pass is ING, with LOD at the spot of the pass.

2. The result is momentum, not a touchback. That makes the basic spot the momentum spot (B-4). Because the foul occurred beyond that (B-8) it will be B 1/10 @ B-2.

4. Play clock is 25 after any kick down other than a free kick.

I just refuse to read, don't I? Geez.

Yep. At the games I work, the PCOs probably don't know that, but, because it wasn't a typical scrimmage down, they would have it at 25 and waiting on me anyway.

Thanks.

What would that have to do with it?
