Thanks for the response. Seems like discipline without teeth. Do you all have an objective system in place to weed out those who can’t cut it? Or is it left up to the coordinator? I’m not looking to bash, but to understand. In my association at the HS level, there is basically no accountability. Coaches send me film which I pass on to the crews and the assignor but nothing ever comes of it.  And I’ve seen some terrible officiating at both levels this year. And been a part of some as well.  #confession #goodforthesoul

In high school if you suspend someone you'll be left without a person on the field and a game without officials.  Coaches might complain about officials but when it comes down to it they just want someone to officiate their game, even it's with those who "can't cut it".

I agree completely. My assignor has said the exact thing. He understands the need for evaluation, but with the current shortage he’s against anything that might cause someone to quit. His words, “at this point I’m more concerned about having enough bodies to cover the game than I am about how good a job they do.”

I don’t perceive that to be a problem at the higher levels though. Maybe I’m wrong.

So it’s not always a “do better next time” talk.  That’s good. Anything about judgment calls? I guess what I’m asking is, on the weekly evaluation, is there a point system or something similar to deduct points for missed calls? When you run out of points you’re suspended or on probation? I’m wondering if we might implement something like that in our association;?
