1. 3/10 @ B-15. During the first possession series of the 1st extra period, Team A is lined up in an illegal formation. A12 throws a forward pass and B25 intercepts the pass at the B-5, and during the return, B38 clips an opponent at midfield before B25 crosses Team A’s goal line.
RULING:

By rule, when fouls by both teams occur during a down in an extra period, and Team B did not foul prior to last gaining possession, any score is canceled, the fouls “cancel” (not “offset”), the possession series ends. Team B will put the ball in play, 1/10, at the succeeding spot for Team B’s possession series in the extra period.

Team A’s illegal formation foul is declined by rule. Team B will put the ball in play, 1/10, following enforcement of the 15-yard penalty for B38’s flagrant UNR from the succeeding spot for Team B‘s possession series in the extra period, and B38 is ejected.
3. 2/10 @ B-35. A44 runs for a touchdown during a down in which time expires in the 2nd quarter. After the touchdown, but before the try, A44 celebrates by throwing the ball deep into the end zone stands.
RULING:
A, try, B-3, no game clock (25), with the 15-yard penalty for A44’s UNS foul enforced at the kickoff for the third period, OR
A, try, B-18, no game clock (25).
The penalty for A44’s dead-ball UNS may be enforced on either the try, or at the succeeding spot, which, in this case, would be the kickoff for the third period, at Team A’s option.
4. 2/10 @ B-35. The score is Team B 21 and Team A 20 late in the 4th quarter. QB A12 runs to the B-32, circles back and throws a pass from the B-36 which is complete to A88 in Team B’s end zone. Time expires on the play.
RULING:
Game over; Team B wins, 21-20.
A12’s forward pass is illegal, as the ball had been in his possession while he was beyond the NZ. The penalty for the illegal forward pass is 5-yards from the spot of the pass, with a Loss of Down. When Loss of Down is included in the penalty statement, the period is not extended AT THE OPTION OF THE OFFENDED TEAM. Team B will obviously elect to allow the period to end, thus, ending the game.
5. 2/10 @ A-20. With the game clock running late in the 2nd quarter, guard A66 in a three-point stance misses the snap count and lurches forward, committing a false start. B77 then commits a dead-ball personal foul. The game clock is stopped with 3 seconds remaining.
RULING:

The live-ball FST and the dead-ball UNR are penalized in the order of their occurrence. The FST caused the game clock to stop with less than 1:00 remaining in the 2nd period, so Team B can elect a 10-second subtraction from the game clock, which they will obviously elect, to end the second period (halftime). The UNR will then be enforced on the third period kickoff.
Alternatively, Team B MAY decline the 10-second subtraction, and have the 5-yard FST penalty enforced, then the 15-yard penalty for B77’s dead-ball UNR would be enforced, which includes a first down for Team A. In this case, the game clock would start on the snap (by rule), and Team A would be able to snap the ball for one more down. Team B would NOT likely elect this option.
6. 3/10 @ B-20. Ball carrier A22 is tackled hard by B44 at the B-5. After the ball is dead, A22 gets up and punches B44.
RULING:
A, 1/10, B-20, ready (25), A22 is ejected.
The dead-ball UNR by A22 occurs after Team A had reached their line-to-gain (creating a new series). Accepted penalties for fouls between series requires the distance penalties to be enforced before establishing the new line-to-gain. The 15-yard penalty for A22’s UNR takes the ball to the B-20, where the new line-to-gain is established.
7. 4/10 @ A-5. Team A’s punt from behind its own goal line crosses the neutral zone, strikes B21 at the A-12 and rebounds back across Team A’s goal line, where A32 recovers and runs to the A-2.
RULING:
A, free kick, A-20, free kick timing (25). Safety – 2 points for Team B.
Although the ball was beyond the NZ when touched by Team B, the impetus remains with the kick by Team A. The status of the ball was still a kick when recovered by A32; thus, the ball is dead at that moment, since Team A may not advance a ball that had been a kick when caught/recovered. Since the impetus Is from A’s kick, and the ball is dead behind their own goal line, that’s a safety.
8. 4/10 @ A-45. Team A punts, and B21 is in position to catch the kick at the B-10. With no fair catch signal given, B21 muffs the punt. B21 attempts to catch the muffed punt at the B-11, but A88 reaches and catches the ball at the B-11 before B21 can make a play on the ball.
RULING:
A, 1/10, B-11, snap (25).
Kick catch interference rules apply to untouched kicks. Once the ball is touched, KCI rules no longer apply – UNLESS the player being interfered gave a valid fair catch signal. In this case, he did NOT give a signal; thus, A88’s catch of the muffed ball is legal, and the ball is dead at the spot of recovery by A88, where Team A is awarded a new series.
