Punching an opponent

  In the Arkansas/Mississippi game yesterday a Mississippi player threw a punch at an Arkansas player barely making contact and they called it a personal foul instead of unsportsmanlike conduct.  If i am not mistaken didn’t this used to be an ejection penalty.  I am just curious since I haven’t read a NCAA rule book since 1991.

Was the ball live or was it clearly after the play was over?  Throwing a punch can be an ejection, but the current trend is to do everything you can to not eject a player for a punch.  The word fighting is a huge word in NCAA.  A fight today must be something like you'd see in a bar after someone hits on the wrong lady.  If just a single punch, give him a UNS if the ball was dead.

It was at the end of the play and they called it a personal foul.

  I believe the ball was still live but am unsure of that
