(This scenario is from an NHFH thread (I added more details) and I don't want to cross streams.)
K punts and they commit illegal touching of the ball downfield at the B45, and bounces to the B35, where R scoops up the ball and runs to the B40. R fumbles, and K recovers at the B45. During the kick an official flags R's coach for being outside the team box. This is the second infraction.
My ruling: Because K's foul is a live ball treated as a dead ball foul, illegal touching is still in play (see rule references below). B gets the ball at the illegal touching spot + 5 yards.
9-2-5-a penalty statement (for sideline interference): Administer as a dead-ball foul. First infraction: Warning for sideline interference. No yardage penalty. [S15] Second and third infractions: Delay of game for sideline interference, five yards from the succeeding spot. <<By definition, the succeeding spot is the spot where the ball will next be put into play. Because the foul is treated as a dead ball foul, which is addressed after the succeeding spot has been determined, the violation spot is still available to B.
6-3-2-b: This privilege <<illegal touching>> is canceled if there is an accepted penalty for a live-ball foul by either team. (As I interpret this, because this particular foul is treated as a dead ball foul, illegal touching is not canceled.)
