Unsportsmanlike Conduct in 2011
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:36:24 PM »
Not only a potential live ball foul but now automatic 1st if against team B! Brings it in line with '9-1' fouls as auto 1st but not sure I agree it's as stiff a penalty as a PF and deserving of that.

I like the idea of adding an automatic first down to Unsportsmanlike fouls. If you don't want to pay the price don't do anything stupid.

Much easier sell to the offense's coach when 3rd and 16 turns into 1st and 10 rather than 4th and 1.

If the rules committee really wants to put the lid on it, USC fouls committed by Team A should carry a forfeiture of the next down.

Heck Yeah, just like roundball.  You commit a "technical"and ball becomes dead with a live ball penalized as dead ball enforcement

Are you equating an automatic 1st down with a loss of down?

Not knowingly.
Why?

Thought that's what you meant by the goose and gander comment.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before- will an unsportsmanlike foul by the non-scoring team during a play that ends in a touchdown still carry over to the try or kickoff?

Yes, because this rule applied to live ball fouls as well as live-ball-fouls-penalized-as dead-ball-fouls (previously). Now, those LBFPADBFs have simply become live-ball fouls.

Not really.  It was only personal fouls.  All other live ball fouls were not enforced.

Maybe this was covered in another thread...if so, sorry for the repeat.

4/10 @ B-40. QB A1 is sacked at the 50. After the play, B99 celebrates/taunts the QB. My question is does the auto-first down occur before we have a new series for B? If we had a DB PF, we would still be giving the ball to B, backed up 15 yards from the SS. DB UNSs still work the same way they always have?

You are correct.  True dead ball fouls will not change how this is penalized.
