Forward progress.  Runner is clearly under the control of the defense (4-5 of them), and not just stopped but actually moving backward.
It's easy to get the players, getting 'em to play together, that's the hard part. - Casey Stengel

Based solely on the limited view in this video, I think the better ruling would have been progress. Perhaps the ball was loose during all of that mess, and it finally got propelled toward A's goal line - but I don't think that is likely. Progress.

I'd hope our crew would have this as forward progress. That is how I'd believe we'd have it based on our discussions.

I assume this is Texas/NCAA rules? Otherwise that's a classic IBW by the fullback if using Fed rules.

Well, the topic is "NCAA Rules Discussion." And "IBW" is no longer a foul code (even when it was, it was for an illegal block in the back). Nowadays, IBB = Illegal Block in the Back; BBW = Block below the Waist.

true nuff. That occurred to me after I closed the lid to my laptop after a very long day. As is evidenced in a couple other of my fantastic posts this evening, best to only read and not post after a certain point in the night.... Never could figure out what the W was for in IBW for illegal block in the back.

It was a convoluted NFL acronym - Illegal Block in the back above the Waist. As opposed to a clip (below the waist).
