Same play... how does an experienced Big 10 referee not know that you tack on for a personal foul on the defense?  I've seen this joker Lipski a number of times this season and wonder when he is going to get sacked.

Considering he gets evaluated on EVERY play, I'd say he gets it right most of the time. If not, he wouldn't be where he is, or stay there. Have you ever been evaluated on every play? I doubt it, but if so you would understand the difference between that and what most officials have for an evaluation. BTW, that is what a crew is for, help if the R/and/or/U make a mistake in the enforcement of a penalty. It happens from time to time at all levels, even the NFL. This past week in an NFL game a crew did not replay a down after a penalty and didn't catch it until the team lined up to punt the ball. The R then came on the mic and explained the crews error and that it was just 3rd down. Precisely why we are a team out there.

Mechanics question - Anyone know who watches for illegal snap in this conference?
I think it is usually the U, but looking at his position at the beginning of the play I have to wonder.
It looks like the ball, the D nose guard and the U are all lined up on the hash, so I would think the ball is blocked from view.
Maybe he could still see it, but maybe someone else has responsibility. Anyone know?

I believe that it has to be the U - In the position he's in I expect he has a clear line of sight to the ball through the legs of the linebacker.

Re OPI or not: I had no foul at full speed and at the first replay.  The second replay shows a swim move with the left arm.  OPI was likely right, but I'm not sure I would have found it.

I saw the swim move but didn't think it made much contact -- and almost certainly not enough to knock B down.

Agreed. If anything, it looks like B is the one who pushed harder and caused the separation (and knocked himself to the ground). No call here. Both looking for the ball, and minimal contact that doesn't really impede.
