SHSU - Montana State

1st and 10 at the B19.  QB hands off and tries to go out for a pass.  He is seriously held while still behind the LOS (flagged) so the RB rolls right and throws the ball way downfield and OOB .  Penalty is enforced and R announces "still 1st down" but chains move.  QB runs a keeper up the middle for 1 yard.  2d and G.   Well it is for a bit but before play is run the crew huddles and R announces it should have been 1st and 1 after the penalty not 1st and G as it was not an auto 1st.  So now it is 1st and G at the 8.  Better late than never.

There was a receiver "in the area".  Besides, he was not the normal QB, nobody expects him to be able to throw straight.   ;D

A lot of schools can be sensitive about their names. You've got to be careful to not call Montana State "Montana".

Likewise, Nevada is "Nev-add-a," not "Nev-ah-da,", and certainly not "Reno."

I know that replay can only correct a down within a given series or before the ball is next legally put in play after that series...please refresh my memory. Does the same rule apply to on-field officials? If so, rule reference?

I don't believe what they did was "correct a down" here.  They actually corrected an error in the location of the line-to-gain marker.  On each play the ball was snapped with the correct down number.

The "error" was for the last play in the video clip where it was 1st and 1/2 yard at the 9-1/2, not 1st & goal.  They never did actually run a play with the incorrect down.  Prior to the snap on the "2nd and goal" play they made the "correction".
