Now I have to have a clock analogy to explain the BBW.

So can we assume the 10 - 2 arch is to be judged in relation to the direction the "blockee" is facing?

So is it now feasible that a wide out positioning outside the zone can actually block in front and angle in towards the ball?

Yes, it's all based on the position of the blocker to the blockee.

So for BBW outside the box does the attached diagram accurately describe legal vs. illegal, with the additional requirement that the BBW not be back toward the end zone?

If this interpretation is correct, and we are now to judge the 10-2 arch in relation to the direction the blockee is facing, then yes....  Picture a sweep - WR A88 can now legally block B55 low and back toward the ball, as long as B55 is persuing (facing) the sideline.

I agree. Thats all I thought of yesterday. I do not think B55 has to be comepletly facing the sideline. I am am lined out wide left and B 55 is 5 yards in ftont and at an angle towards midfield, if i can get him in front at my 2 his 2 its legal.

Yes, good picture. Now I'll know if I see a rectangle commit an illegal BBW during the game!

Sorry to be a smart alec but it will be very interesting to see how this is administered against PLAYERS who will be moving and trying to avoid blocks.

We'll have to make them all wear special pants with a certain color in the 10-2 area and a different color on the sides and back!

Or maybe 2:00:01 if it's really close?

Does it matter if it AM or PM? What if you prefer military time can it be 1400-2000?   but seriously... so the contact must be in the 10-2 area or does the direction of the blocker need to be in the 10-2 area. If I am a blocker I can go low on a player from like a 900 position and still get him in the front if he is facing another direction. I know this is hard to explain what I am trying to say.

I thought the diagram by NVFOA_Ump was excellent and a great visual to explain the BBW concept... nice job!!!

This concept is simply about whether the player being blocked low had a chance to see the block coming and a chance to defend against it... 10 to 2 is that visual area.  2:00:01 to 9:59:59 is not that visual area and is a foul... it is black and white.  A line is drawn in the sand, which is all we can ask for.

Now the challenge is: Can we tell time?  The tough block is 2-to-3 and 9-to-10.  4-to-8 would be a clip and shouldn't be any more difficult to call than in the past.

Go back and look at some low block situations from previous seasons and see where they fit into this rule now. We've found some BBW fouls called that are now legal and obviously some 3 & 9 blocks that are now fouls.  This is an "adjustment change" for us but it sure beats the adjustments and confusion we were having with the former rule.
