2012 Mechanics

Manuals are on the TASO site. There are several changes in effect for this year. I really like the option of a black bean bag.

I thought so also, until I was at a clinic Saturday and saw them. Do not like them at all. I think I will stick with my white.

As long as the official who throws it knows where it is, we're fine. The white ones just don't work with the black pants and they're on us more than they're on the field!

So now football officiating is about fashion and color coordination rather than practicality?

based on the new edict on what shorts you can't and can't wear, what color of socks, etc... I would say... yes.

Apparently.  The new shorts with the stripe is an example.  What the heck is wrong with plain black shorts, like I've work for SV for the last 25 years?

The district rep explained as a way to get folks to comply with the requirement for approved black shorts.  Too many folks wearing beltless BB shorts.  Not a good reason to go and change the uniform in my opionion.  I'm thinking some well placed white athletic tape on the pant leg will hold up over the course of a contest.

Do you really think I can wear shorts from 25 years ago?  Not likely, but it would be nice.

I'm guessing they believe that if the shorts allowed are all black, no matter what, some will always wear the basketball or other style that doesn't look good. Sort of like having knickers, but some guys get baseball pants instead. White stripe means they have to buy those specific shorts -- just like the specific knickers we wore.

Joe, I'm old enough to have worked with plenty of oder guys that used golf pants or whatever cut off and sown up to look like knickers.  The shorts requirement is just bothersome and makes me think our TASO board doesn't have enough to worry about.  Its just silly, but that's my old fart's opinion.

I know what you're saying: if I'm not mistaken, my mom made my dad a pair of knickers to wear back in the '50s and '60s. They obviously weren't the specific uniform called for. But that was a different time. I know for a fact she sewed flags and put in washers as weights.

I disagree with you about TASO -- I don't like the stripe requirement myself, but I do agree that it may take a different style short to get everyone to buy and wear the SAME thing. We wear the same shirts, pants, hats, etc. Its also a small price to pay if we now can wear shorts in SV games early in the year.
