"That hasn't happened to me in 26 years!"
« on: September 15, 2014, 10:01:57 PM »
Oklahoma HS coach over in Arkansas last Friday. Our U, as he has done every game for 5+ years, brings his pressure gauge as he and the R go to pre-game the coaches. The Oklahoma team's footballs are a little flat and we will not mark them until they are properly inflated. Coach goes on and on about how no one has ever checked the footballs. I guess we are the only ones!

Did you remind him he wasn't in Oklahoma?  ::)

Do we have a pressure gauge handy ???? - yes, the umpire can wrap  sNiCkErS bars around it.
Do we use the pressure gauge on every ball for approval ????- No,would you worry if it was 11.5 PSI.
When do we use a pressure gauge ???? - to break a tie, when a coach says ,"It's fine" and we say, "Too soft".
CAUTION : On hot days, a melting  sNiCkErS can gum-up a pressure gauge :o

I guess it really all depends on how much someone wants to use a particular ball.  Until the Referee agrees "it's fine" it's not acceptable.

Middle school game this week, 4th quarter of a blowout.  Second-string QB comes in & hands me a mush-melon.  As I turn to throw it out, QB says "But ref, that's the only one I can throw."

"Sorry, son, you're gonna have to learn to throw a REAL ball sooner or later."

Wait till you put that pressure gauge in and it blows the bladder of his $80.00 football.

Been there, done that!  tiphat:

4tt quarter of a blowout game and they're still throwing? I see a bigger problem than a mush-melon football.
