Does TD signal equal a whistle?
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:00:48 PM »
Pass thrown to end zone.  Intercepted by B who returns ball out of the end zone 100 yds for a touchdown. When the covering official saw possession of the pass, he signals TD thinking it was A who caught the ball.  Whistle never blows. Is this considered an IW?

I would say yes...4-1-2-b
ARTICLE 2. a. A live ball becomes a dead ball as provided in the rules or when an official sounds his whistle (even though inadvertently) or otherwise
signals the ball dead (A.R. 4-2-1-II and A.R. 4-2-4-I).

No-calls are soon forgotten...blown calls live forever.

WOW!!!

I'm glad the FED rule only says "when an official blows his whistle inadvertently"...

I was always told there is no such thing as an inadvertent whistle you meant to blow the durn thing, just at the wrong time.

This came up in a post-game yesterday: the only time a whistle kills the play is when it shouldn't.

He was not signaling touchdown.  He was just stretching.  Touchdown B.

I think the mechanics manual instructs you to yawn after the signal, as to prove you were just stretching.

Just tell the coaches you were "raising the roof", followed by "lighten up bro".   ^good
