Change the distance to 4th and 10 and the answer to be 4th and 3, and then we might have some discussion. Don't see anything special otherwise.

Kalle, you're right, I just typed 22 in stead of 32 which caused the other error. (corrected now)
TXMike, yes, the play from the Boise State - Nevada game, no video.

It was misenforced last night.   Should have been a 1st and G for A at the B-8 instead of 1st and 10 for B at the 16 as it was.

Not sure where it was snapped form but would be half the distance   I thought it was the 16   If it was the 18 then it would be 1st and G at the 9

Literal reading of the rule 9-4-1 penalty would mean that team A does not get to repeat the down, thus if the penalty does not place the ball beyond the LTG, it would be team B's ball, if the foul is on the fourth down. I think this is just one more example of sloppy rules writing and it should say something like: "15 yards and loss of down for a foul by team A if the the loss of down..."

TXMike, my head's not completly straight this morning, "after further review" I agree with the previous spot enforcement, not spot-of-the foul... (but previous was Bs18)

Enforcing this from the previous spot would be wrong. This is a basic spot foul without any specification for a foul behind the previous spot, so it is a simple 3-and-1 enforcement. See rule 2-33.

This is a previous spot enforcement.

Previous spot is the Basic spot (10-2-2-d-4-a).  Enforcement is from the basic spot (10-2-2-c).  This is a team B foul so the "loss of down" phrase in the penalty in 9-4-1-c is not applicable (it is in conflict with other rules - 5-2-2-a & 5-2-3-a)

The B-18 was the previous spot, so the correct enforcement should have been: A's ball 1/G on the B-9.

It's too bad Elvis doesn't post here anymore- he probably knows what happened on this one.

Yes, you're absolutely right, and I'm wrong - I was somehow thinking of a team A foul enforcement for a team B...

Wow, missed that one last night.  Great learning play.  Good call by R, but he seemed to be in a hurry to enforce. Agree correct enforcement would have resulted in A keeping ball 1/G at the B9.

Brings up the issue of game administration.  I know it's been a point of emphasis this year, we've been told to move the game along, and not linger too long on penalty administration.  However, this play is a good example where we need to slow things down - uncommon foul, resulting in A keeping the ball after a blocked FG attempt.  The R got on the mic so quickly, it didn't give anyone on the crew a chance to come in with more info.

So who can update the answer choices on the poll question?   ;D

Very good example for game administration, sometimes you need to slow things down and go through the whole play, especially when there are kick-plays and/or c.o.p
This type of call could change the outcome of games.

Poll updated, but the answer is already given in discussion.

HUGE mistake that never should have happened. That is basic penalty enforcement and someone on the crew has to catch that one and save the crew. I guarantee the entire crew got a major downgrade on that one!!
